Day 3 outstation Penang. We finally broke something probably very expensive. It all happened when we were doing some wiring on a watergate. The company engineer and my workmate were testing a electric motor that lifted the water gate. The motor turned some gears, the gears turns a shaft and that shaft turns the cables so that the gate goes up or down. So basically the gate was stuck in muck or mud that was residing at the bottom of the river and we(they) tried to force the thing up. Guess who won? The suction power did. It overcame the turning capability of a hand welded shaft. The shaft lost big time with a bang. And I mean a bigass bang. I was watching the ruined right shaft being torn apart when the left shaft decided to give me a big big big big fright by sound. It did not crack. It did not shatter but it was torn apart by shear force. Good news, I’m going home tomorrow night.
